The Word across Canada (September 28)

Every week we want to bring to your attention expository, Gospel-centred sermons from pastors across Canada. We hope that you become familiar with some of the faithful ministers of the word in our nation. We also hope that you will be edified on your daily commute or whenever you listen to these messages. We lastly hope that you learn about the churches where these pastors minister, so that you can easily find Gospel-centered, expository churches in your region.

Rob Snyder on 2 Corinthians 3 (Calgary)

How does transformation happen in the believer’s life? Are we saved by the gospel to move on to supposedly bigger and better ways for sanctification? Or does transformation happen by simply looking to ourselves and our own ingenuity for fighting sin. As we look at chapter 3 of 2 Corinthians, we’ll find that the answer to those questions is powerfully refreshing and encouraging.

Here are the sermon’s main points:

  1. The glory of the ministry of death
  2. The exceeding glory of the ministry of the Spirit
  3. How the ministry of the Spirit transforms

Rob Godard on “Trusting God: He is Able” (Surrey)

To fully trust in God, we must know that He is ALL POWERFUL, ALL WISE. and  ALL GOOD. If we believe these things then we are able to realize, in the midst of desperate pain that He knows more than we do, and His plan is never stopped due to lack of power. Genesis 22 introduces us to one of the greatest stories of faith in the Bible. Abraham receives an impossible command from God, and hurries to carry it out because He knows God.  The better we know God. and His ALMIGHTY POWER. the more we will be able to trust and obey Him in all circumstances.

Brad Morrice on 1 Peter 2:9-12 (Montreal)

This fall Église du Plateau is exploring the question “Is the Church out of date?” 1 Peter speaks of a church full of resident foreigners; this week Brad Morrice explores how the church in the world is to be different, rooted, yet profoundly realistic.

Paul Martin on Exodus 14:1-14 (Toronto)

Sometimes things need to look worse before they can get better. In fact, sometimes God goes out of His way to arrange our circumstances so that it looks like all hope is lost. What better way to display His glory? In Exodus 14, the children of Israel are led by God into a dead end situation, with a trained military machine coming up behind them. All looks lost. Unless you are the One who put the whole situation together.

Speaker: Josh Tong on Luke 9:18-27 (King City)

What does it mean to live “the good life”? Some say it’s career success. Others say it’s close relationships. One self-help guru summarizes it as “doing what I want, when I want”. Jesus, on the other hand, says that the good life involves suffering. It involves rejection. It involves giving up your dreams and ambitions, and embracing his instead. In this sermon, Pastor Josh explains how we only truly live when we have died to ourselves, and why paying this price to follow Jesus is worth it.

Robbie Symons on Psalm 26 (Oakville)

Integrity has been defined as “who you are when nobody is watching”. Employees tell us that above all, integrity is the single most important characteristic in a leader. The world appreciates integrity, but it is deeply valued by God. The Lord gave us Jesus, the perfect picture of integrity. It is the foundation that allows us to trust in God without wavering. Today, Pastor Robbie examines Psalm 26 and living a life of integrity.
